Everyone has a friend whose “tool kit” consists of a butter knife, a handful of paperclips, a shoehorn and a pencil. Don’t be that friend. Get yourself a sturdy plastic container (or invest in an actual tool box if you’re so inclined), then fill it with these 10 tool kit essentials that will make those small home repairs much simpler and safer!

  1. Hammer
  2. Flashlight
  3. Multi-head screwdriver (or at least one flathead and one Philips head screwdriver)
  4. Level (these come in small sizes so you should be able to find one to fit in a fairly small took box).
  5. Tape measure
  6. Utility knife
  7. Saw
  8. Crescent wrench
  9. Pliers
  10. Stud finder

Bonus items: An assortment of screws, nails, hooks and other small accessories (especially useful for putting up pictures and completing small repairs).

Keep your tool kit in a spot that’s convenient and easy to access so you won’t be tempted to revert back to the old butter knife. With your handy tool kit at the ready, everything you need will always be just a few steps away when you want put together some shelves, hang a picture or fix that wobbly side table!
