Members in action!

helping the community
Each year ForestersTM organizes hundreds of member volunteer activities, providing financial support and giving a hand to various charitable partners, including KaBOOM!, the American Red Cross and Ronald McDonald House Charities®. Beyond financial contributions, these programs allow members like you to make a meaningful and lasting impact in your very own communities.

One of our dedicated member volunteers is Cherie Hauca, daughter of two proud Foresters Council members, who was born into the community-building world of fraternalism. She and her husband are now thrilled to pass along that same commitment to service and spirit of generosity to their own children through their volunteer activities with Foresters. As co-leader of her Local Legacy and new member of the BC Branch Council, over the years Cherie has helped to organize many member event activities. In fact, she and her husband have coordinated the Adopt-A-Road program in Kelowna, BC for the past 10 years, picking up trash on a stretch of road and keeping their community clean and beautiful.

On March 24, Cherie led a team of 26 volunteers, including her family, as they put together 100 care packages for three shelters in the Kelowna area. Fifty went to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, 25 went to the Vernon Gateway Men’s Shelter and an additional 25 went to The Women’s Transition House in Vernon. The day after the event two member volunteers helped to deliver all the care packages to the grateful recipient organizations.

The items in the care packages, packed neatly into gift bags donated by Winners, were purchased by Cherie and her 10-year old daughter during a mother-daughter shopping spree. They had fun bargain hunting as they picked up things like toiletries, stationery, water, snacks and gloves—as much as the budget would allow!

“What a great event this was”, enthused Cherie. “It was the first of its kind for our Okanagan Legacy, and I thought it was very successful! It was very fulfilling and rewarding!” Will she be doing it again? The answer is a resounding yes—and Cherie can’t wait!

We are grateful to dedicated members like Cherie who are also committed to the well-being of families. It’s our shared commitment to families and the communities where they live that makes Foresters and our members truly unique.
